The Historic cities of York (45 minutes) and  Ripon (15 minutes).  The spa town of  Harrogate and its International Centre for conferences (20 minutes).

Pateley Bridge, Grassington, Leyburn, Masham, Skipton and Thirsk.

 

National Trust Properties:

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Benningbrough Hall, Nunnington Hall and Brimham Rocks.

 

Country Houses:

Castle Howard, Harewood HouseRipley Castle and Newby Hall with its magnificent gardens.

 

Horse Racing:

Regular Meetings at Ripon, Thirsk, York, Wetherby and Catterick.

 

Touring:

The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), awesome in their beauty.

 

Arts and Crafts:

Pateley Bridge has a variety of Artists, Sculptors, Glassmakers and Jewellers.  We recommend a visit to Sanders and Wallace, glass blowers, in the Kingstreet Workshops.

 

Outdoor Pursuits:

A wide choice of activies in the area, including Horse Riding, Shooting, Sailing and Fishing. There is swimming in the Nidderdale Recreation Centre, with its modern indoor pool and gym, or for those who like it under groud, Stump Cross Caverns.  

 

Walking:

Many glorious opportunities, including Heritage Trails and the Mosaic Walk, which passes right past our front door.

 

Museums:

The Nidderdale Museum at Pateley Bridge - well worth a visit.

 

Music and Theatre:

The area has numerous Festivals, Concerts and Plays at various points in the calendar, both amateur and professional, with live music venues in Harrogate, Ripon and York.

 

Food and Drink:

  There are many delightful pubs and restaurants in the area.  Pateley Bridge has a range of traditional shops, among them The Oldest Sweetshop in England - a must, even if your self-restraint allows you only to look!
